Summer Reading

What are you reading this summer?

Eliana is in our library's summer reading program for the first time this year. As a prize for the first 10 books she "read", they gave her a sticker, a coupon for free ice cream, and a little snufflupagus (I have no idea how to spell that! We haven't read Sesame Street stories yet), like the type of little beanie toy you'd get in a happy meal. She was thrilled to pieces of course:)

My favorites of the books we've read so far:
The Barn Owls - Tony Johnston
The Story about Ping - Marjorie Flack
I Love My Mommy - Sebastien Braun
and a few by Jan Brett.

I've also compiled an enormous list of "to-read" books. Yes, I have a list for my 2 year old... lol:) I just get tired of just randomly trying to find good books on the shelves. So many are silly! Just because they are for small children doesn't mean they should be poorly written. Some of our favorites are very simply, yet full of creativity. A great example is Somebunny Loves Me by Joan Holub. Eliana has loved it since she was small and now even Garrett, at just barely 5 months old, gets very excited every time I read it to him! Another simple one that we like is We Have a Baby by Cathryn Falwell. It tells all the sweet things to do with a new baby - a baby to watch, a baby to touch, wash, dress, feed, hold, love. Very sweet and perfect for the child who has a new baby:)

What am I reading?? Hmmm... lots of childrens books!! I'm almost through with Bill Cosby's book Fatherhood which is quite humorous even for a non-father like me:) I recently requested Talkers, Watchers, and Doers by Cheri Fuller, so I've yet to see whether it's good or not.

I apologize for not blogging much. That is the result of our computer and our little boy residing in the same bedroom! I'm lucky today - he's sleeping through all my clicking!

I would love to see your list. Wait until the kids are older and you have to "edit" the books while reading to them. All the slang curse words or someone smoking a pipe.... children's books shoud be kept innocent.
